Independent Author Agreement
Thank you for reaching out regarding your interest in having your book in our store. We are owned by an independent poetry publisher, and thus pride ourselves greatly on having a good stock of independent and local work in the store. Shelf space of course is limited, and because of our connection to literally thousands of authors the world over, we can’t do consignment arrangements for the simple fact that our shelves would be overloaded. And of course, there is no guarantee of many sales with certain titles so the nature of the business demands we put things on the shelves we know will move. We do have a specific amount of shelf space available at the moment for independent and local titles (which is a very popular space.) As spots are available, we rent out shelf space. For $25 per month, we can fit your title on our shelves (as space allows.) We do this arrangement in 3 month intervals, at which point one can simply cash out and remove their remaining books or renew the arrangement for another 3 months. But…when the book sells, you keep 90% of the sale (we only take a 10% processing fee.) So if the book sells for $15, you get $13.50 from that sale. We would ask for 10 copies of the book to start on the shelves and if it gets below 5 copies we ask for more. We think this arrangement is fair to both parties because the store itself makes something for books on the shelf, and the authors get to keep the majority of the sales of their books. When possible we also would encourage our independent and local authors to set up a book signing/meet the author event with us to help shore up excitement for the book on the shelf. Right now to ensure fairness for multiple authors we are allowing a maximum of 2 titles per author on the shelf, this might change in the future if we expand the section. Thank you again for your interest in our store. Please email: [email protected] for any further questions or to check about the program’s availability. Please include "Local & Independent Author Program" in the subject-line. |
